21-year-old returns home from Israel as Israel-Iran truce begins

Homecoming for Seth McGuire

This week, Rep. John McGuire from Virginia welcomed home his 21-year-old son, Seth, who returned from Israel.

At an exclusive interview at Washington Dulles International Airport, McCready shared his experience after traveling from Israel to Jordan and Egypt before catching his final flight. He was emotionally greeted by his father and two brothers at the airport’s International Arrivals Gate, surrounded by lawmakers holding red, white, and blue balloons and American flags.

“God protects me and those I was with, and he protects Israel too,” McCready stated. He expressed his conviction that Israel would be okay, saying, “I believe 100% of the time Israel is going to pull out. It’s fine.”

Republican Praises for Trump Amid Ceasefire

During the journey, McGuire’s office maintained constant contact with him. Earlier discussions centered around the recent tensions in the region, particularly following what was called “12 Days of War” announced by former President Donald Trump. McCready noted that he had visited Israeli families during this time and mentioned potentially volunteering to help with various services if the conflict persisted. “We had some impacts, something like kilometers away from me, and the whole building shaking,” he recounted the feeling of the strikes nearby.

Rep. McGuire expressed his joy upon his son’s return, mentioning, “I’m very happy with his family. You can’t always help anyone, but that’s the best part of this job as much as you can.”

As McCready returned, he received assistance not just from his family but from the State Department, with indications that they are keen on offering further assistance as necessary. McGuire acknowledged the important role played by supervisor Ramona Christian in securing McCready’s safe return.

McGuire celebrated this moment, especially as the tenuous ceasefire between Iran and Israel had just been announced. However, questions lingered over the durability of the ceasefire following Trump’s announcement about a complete ceasefire deal on Monday evening.

Trump declared that the US had successfully targeted three Iranian nuclear sites, yet concerns remained regarding Iran’s nuclear ambitions and the extent of the damage inflicted on their program. “Iran’s ability to project power has diminished significantly,” McGuire asserted, reiterating the importance of eliminating nuclear threats from Iran.

Amid ongoing hostilities, McGuire maintains hope for lasting peace in the region. He emphasized his commitment as a member of the House Oversight Committee and the House Armed Services Committee, bringing past military experience to his legislative role.
