A pro-Israeli demonstrator in Boulder, Colorado, has been charged with murder following the death of one victim from injuries sustained during a recent attack. Authorities announced this development on Monday.
Mohamed Soliman, 45, now faces over 100 charges as additional casualties have come to light, according to the Boulder County District Attorney, Michael Dougherty.
Dougherty revealed that the number of identified victims in the attack has risen to 29. Soliman is facing allegations of federal hate crimes linked to targeting individuals participating in events supporting anti-Israel demonstrations.
Documents discovered in Soliman’s vehicles contained a message stating, “The enemy who has been released from Jerusalem and they are banished from our lands are our enemies,” according to court records.
Dougherty expressed his condolences, stating, “This horrifying attack now claims the life of an innocent person loved by her family and friends. Our office will fight for justice for the victims, their loved ones, their community.”
He also highlighted the strength of the Colorado community, saying, “What makes Colorado special is the fact that people come together in response to the tragedy. We know that the community will continue to unite in supporting all victims of this attack.”
A statement from Diamond’s family requested privacy during this difficult time.
Diamond, along with other protesters, gathered in Boulder on June 1 to demand the return of Israeli hostages taken by Hamas during the tragic attack on October 7, 2023. Authorities noted that Soliman intended to use devices to target the crowd.
According to the FBI, participants were instructed to shout “free Palestine” during the attack.
If convicted of murder, Soliman could face life imprisonment. He also faces several other charges, including 52 attempted first-degree murder counts and multiple assault charges, each carrying significant penalties.
