A new sculpture on the High Line in Manhattan has been causing quite a stir. It’s a fountain that resembles very pink, very phallic feet, intriguing some visitors while making others a bit uncomfortable.

“I think it’s cool that you can turn the water on – but posing in front of it? No way,” shared 40-year-old Danny L. from Brooklyn.

This 10-foot artwork, named “Footfountain (Pink),” was created by Argentine artist Mika Rottenberg and was installed along the High Line near 30th Avenue in April.

The installation features pink feet with unusual red-mouthed legs and tongues sticking out, catching the attention of both locals and tourists.

One Instagram user quipped, “Let’s be clear. No one was really looking at our feet,” while another bluntly noted, “I definitely saw a pink penis.”

The structure has certainly left onlookers perplexed. The fountain allows passersby to activate it using their feet, promoting interaction in an unexpected way.

Sanjeet Singh, a 46-year-old tourist from India, described the piece as “odd.” He mused, “It’s interesting, but I assure you, you won’t find anything like this back home. In my culture, this would be too much.”

Opinions varied on social media. Danny R., a 29-year-old visiting from San Francisco, found the sculpture “uncomfortable.” “It gives me this sort of itching vibe with all those holes,” she expressed, “but, you know, it’s actually pretty cool.”

Others, however, took a lighter approach. Angie R., 35, a mom from the Upper West Side, remarked on the fun experience it provided her children. “Kids love running through sprinklers, so this is like a funky little surprise,” she noted.

Italian tourist Katie Saleno, 27, also shared her thoughts, highlighting the playful aspect for children while acknowledging that “adults see real art.”

No comment has been received from Rottenberg regarding the piece.

“Foot Fountain (Pink)” will remain on display until May 2026.
