Eric Adams supports 50 Cent, stating Mamdani should have a 'one-way ticket to Fantasyland'

Adams Critiques Mamdani’s Economic Ideas Alongside 50 Cent

New York City Mayor Eric Adams voiced his agreement with rapper 50 Cent regarding the economic proposals from Zoran Mamdani, a Democratic socialist candidate. Adams suggested that Mamdani’s ideas are best suited for “Fantasyland.”

In a post on X, Adams remarked, “Hey @50cent, it’s a one-way ticket to Fantasyland and he’ll fit in quickly,” sharing a screenshot of 50 Cent’s earlier post questioning Mamdani’s policy concepts.

Adams humorously commented, “Rent is optional, the atmosphere is currency, and your parents are the only place they still cover your deduction.”

After being elected as a Democrat in 2021, Adams recently announced his shift to running as an independent, following a dip in public recognition and a retracted federal corruption charge. He asserted that socialism lacks “dignity.”

Adams emphasized at a recent event launching his re-election campaign, “This is a city, not socialism. There’s no dignity in giving everything away for free. Instead, there’s dignity in enabling work that provides opportunities for families.”

This month, 50 Cent, whose real name is Curtis James Jackson III, reacted to comments made by Mamdani on the “Breakfast Club” podcast. During the show, Mamdani, a 33-year-old assembly member from Queens originally from Uganda, mentioned plans to raise corporate taxes as part of his economic vision.

According to Mamdani, “We’re talking about companies that make millions of dollars— not just revenue, but profits. The second point is targeting the top 1% of New Yorkers with a flat 2% tax increase for those earning over $1 million annually.”

Mamdani also acknowledged 50 Cent’s potential displeasure with the tax suggestions. “He tends to not favor this tax policy, but this could mean about $20,000 a year in context,” Mamdani noted.

50 Cent, who supported Donald Trump in the 2020 election, remarked critically on Mamdani’s proposals, asking rhetorically, “Where did he come from? Whose friend is this? I don’t feel this plan at all.” He joked about offering Mamdani a substantial sum and a one-way ticket out of New York, declaring, “I’m telling Trump what he said!”

Both 50 Cent and Mamdani were approached for comments, but no immediate responses were received.
