Prosecutors in Missouri are looking to elevate the charges against two individuals linked to the deaths of three Kansas City Chiefs fans. A representative from the Platte County prosecutor’s office confirmed that they aim to upgrade the involuntary manslaughter charges against Jordan Willis and Ivory J. Carson to second-degree murder.
The three deceased fans—Clayton McGeeney, 37; Ricky Johnson, 38; and 36-year-old David Harrington—were discovered frozen in a friend’s backyard on January 9, 2024, after an NFL watch party.
Previously, both Willis and Carson faced charges related to the delivery of controlled substances, excluding marijuana or synthetic cannabinoids, along with the involuntary manslaughter charges filed in March. Court records indicate that Carson allegedly sold cocaine to Willis, and his DNA was found in a bag containing fentanyl, linked to the victims.
Willis’s attorney, John Piquerno, expressed frustration over the new charges, arguing that the felony murder law is being misapplied. “It’s disappointing, but not unexpected. Jordan has maintained his innocence since the beginning and declined any plea deals,” Piquerno stated. He had previously expressed surprise that Jordan was charged for the deaths of his friends, noting that the prosecutor’s office had given him different information before.
Willis’s legal team contends that he should not be held accountable for the tragic incident, emphasizing his belief that he did not supply the drugs that led to the deaths. They are looking forward to presenting all the evidence in court to clarify the situation.
