Warning Over NYC Mayoral Candidate
On Friday, politician Dave Rubin cautioned Jewish Americans that if Zohran Mamdani becomes mayor in the upcoming November election, they might want to consider leaving New York City.
Mamdani, a Muslim New York State Assemblyman from Queens, recently secured his position as the Democratic candidate for mayor. However, both Republicans and some within his own party have criticized the democratic socialists, labeling them as extreme.
His views on Israel have stirred controversy, particularly his hesitance to denounce phrases like “intifada globalization,” which have emerged amid a rise in anti-Semitism.
“This guy is an absolute radical,” Rubin remarked about Mamdani. He added that Mamdani once stated he would arrest Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu if he came to NYC, and referred to the phrase “from the river to the sea.”
Mamdani, who moved to the US from Uganda at the age of seven, became a naturalized citizen in 2018 after living in South Africa. Regarding the contentious phrases during a mid-June podcast, he faced backlash for not condemning them.
Jewish advocacy groups quickly criticized him, leading to calls from various Democratic figures, including House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, who said Mamdani needs to clarify his stance on such statements. Jeffries articulated that it’s essential for Mamdani to prove his commitment to addressing the rising anti-Semitism in New York City as he moves forward.
Rubin expressed concerns that a city led by Mamdani could be unsafe for Jewish residents. “I’ve been saying this for a few weeks,” he said. “If he wins, Jewish people should leave New York City. It’s unfortunate, but that’s a real possibility.” He further noted, “The police force is already struggling, and with him in charge, it could worsen.”
Mamdani has reportedly called for measures like banning all guns, which Rubin condemned as an infringement on constitutional rights. “Even if you have strong feelings about guns, that right is guaranteed,” he stated, labeling Mamdani as a radical extremist.
Efforts to reach Mamdani for comments were met with no immediate response.
