Man Charged After Viral Incident During Los Angeles Protests

A man who gained attention after being seen on live television is now facing charges for allegedly delivering a truckload of facial shields meant for protesters during demonstrations in Los Angeles last month. Alejandro Orellana, 29, has been charged with conspiracy related to civil disability.

Accusations Against Protesters

Los Angeles officials have reported that over 40 protesters allegedly attacked officers and horses, leading to threats against children during these events.

According to federal prosecutors, Orellana gathered with others on June 9 to load a Ford F-150 truck with UVEX brand face shields, masks, and water bottles in preparation for an anti-ICE protest. He then drove into a crowd of protesters and distributed these items, as confirmed by the Justice Department.

“Identifying and apprehending those involved in organizing and funding these riots is our top priority,” stated Bill Essay during Orellana’s arrest.

Concerns Grow over Organized Protests

He added that the protests appear to be well-organized and funded, raising questions about the groups behind them. Orellana is reportedly linked to Centro CSO, which is currently raising funds for his legal defense and has planned a protest on Thursday to advocate against the charges he faces.

Supporters have taken to social media, declaring, “Protesting is not a crime! Alejandro has done nothing wrong!” Orellana claims he has been protesting against ICE for five years.

Broader Context of Recent Protests

These developments follow a wave of violent riots against the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) sparked by the Trump administration’s deportation initiatives targeting undocumented immigrants.

Overall, the situation highlights escalating tensions and the complexities surrounding protests in the region.
