Ford Motor Company has issued a recall for over 200,000 vehicles due to software issues that may cause the rear camera to malfunction.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reported that 200,061 vehicles are affected, including the 2018-2022 Transit Connect, as well as various models from 2019-2024 such as the MKZ, Edge, Continental, F-150, Nautilus, and Fusion; the Ranger and Mustang from 2019-2023; and the Ecosport, Expedition, and Navigator from 2020-2021. Other models include the Escape, F-250 SD, Corsair, Explorer, Bronco Sports, and Maverick.
The issue stems from a recently identified software bug, which may cause the rearview camera to display blank or frozen images when the vehicle is restarted.
Ford emphasized that such blank images could hinder a driver’s visibility, posing safety concerns.
Should the images persist while the vehicle is in reverse, this could lead to distractions for drivers.
Both scenarios heighten the likelihood of accidents, according to Ford’s statement.
Owners of the affected vehicles can bring them to a dealer, where the software can be updated at no charge.
Ford has not yet responded to inquiries from media outlets about related issues.
Notification letters to vehicle owners are expected to be delivered by July 28th.
