Navy veteran dies in Texas police shooting that injured one officer: bodycam footage

In a shocking incident, four Navy veteran fathers lost their lives during an unusual shootout with a Texas police officer in broad daylight. This tragic event unfolded in early June.

On June 1, Salvador Valdiviezo, 35, was killed, while a female officer sustained injuries when two officers from the El Paso Police Department responded to a domestic violence call in a residential neighborhood.

The body camera footage shows the female officer confronting Valdiviezo, who was armed and positioned in the driveway. She instructed him to raise his hands, just before he opened fire.

In a chaotic moment captured on film, the visibly startled officer reacted, calling for backup and firing back with assistance from her male colleague.

Officers took cover behind a parked truck, attempting to evade the gunfire. Valdiviezo, meanwhile, moved from behind the vehicle and into the street as the exchange continued.

Approximately two dozen shots were exchanged in a brief 40-second confrontation. The injured female officer, while reloading her weapon, found herself behind the trunk of the police vehicle, while her partner remained near the house’s periphery. Shortly after finishing her reload, Valdiviezo made his move and shot her again.

Both officers continued to return fire, demanding that Valdiviezo comply and get on the ground. The footage reveals that he suffered fatal wounds to his chest and legs, though the total number of shots he sustained is unclear.

The female officer, realizing she had been hit in the leg, quickly applied a Velcro tourniquet to stem the bleeding as other officers attended to Valdiviezo.

“I’m hit! I’m hit! Oh no!” the female officer exclaimed while maintaining her aim on Valdiviezo’s body.

The male officer informed dispatch of the situation, indicating the officer had been injured.

Valdiviezo was rushed to a local hospital but unfortunately did not survive.

According to his obituary, Valdiviezo was honorably discharged from the Navy. However, details regarding his service timeline and reasons for his discharge remain unclear.
