Raskin on Trump’s ‘ugly’ comment: Not everyone can match his ‘exquisite’ standard of ‘handsomeness’

Raskin on Trump 'ugly' remark: Not everyone can live up to his 'exquisite' level of 'handsomeness'

Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD), known for his vocal criticism of President Trump, recently found himself in an ironic situation after the president referred to him as “ugh” online.

“Being called ugly by Donald Trump isn’t exactly a compliment, but not everyone can match his self-proclaimed level of handsomeness,” Raskin mentioned during an appearance on MSNBC’s “The Last Word” with Lawrence O’Donnell.

He added, “I guess I belong to the majority of American men who don’t live up to his high standards, especially considering his unusual appeal to women.” This comes after Trump made a post on True Social criticizing Maryland lawmakers, referring to them as “third-rate Democratic politicians.” Raskin quipped, “I’m not sure what fantastical tax cuts he’s talking about. If he does, I certainly wouldn’t get it.”

“It’s amusing—he’s been consistently losing to me for years,” Raskin said. “I actually enjoy seeing his grumpy face because it reflects his ongoing defeats. Trump thinks I’m a terrible politician and a total loser!”

Raskin, who served as a lead manager during Trump’s second impeachment trial related to the January 6 Capitol attack, isn’t new to harsh critiques. Recently, the GOP has been deliberating a significant spending bill in the Senate. The House managed to push its own spending package forward after a dramatic procedural vote last Thursday.

Raskin has been a fierce opponent of this spending package, expressing his concerns on social media. He stated, “Democratic lawmakers are standing up for all Americans, rejecting GOP efforts to cut jobs and healthcare, and are united against this debt extraction tax bill.” On Thursday, he escalated his opposition, labeling the proposal a “tax system.”

He continued, “The GOP’s tax system takes away healthcare from millions, including over 245,000 in Maryland.” Raskin firmly declared, “I’m voting against it, and it’s a ‘Hell No’ from me.”

Efforts to contact the White House for comments were made.
