Iris Dayana Monteroso Lemas, an undocumented immigrant, found herself back in Guatemala after over a decade when she was arrested by immigration authorities in Lenore.
While she was pregnant, Monteroso was detained at the Richwood Correctional Center in Louisiana, where she unfortunately lost her midterm pregnancy.
“For three days, I was here in this Louisiana facility, and my baby died inside me,” she shared.
Later, Aly Beth Stucky, a host at blazetv, expressed her disapproval of such treatment. She emphasized her support for immigration laws but clarified that it doesn’t mean she condones the treatment of individuals like Monteroso.
DHS officials, however, disputed Monteroso’s claims, insisting that she received proper medical care. Tricia McLaughlin from the Department of Homeland Security labeled the story as “absolutely wrong,” stating that Monteroso had been under consistent prenatal care.
According to DHS, she underwent various medical evaluations, including ultrasounds and visits with obstetricians. When Monteroso reported pain on April 29th, they claim she was given immediate attention and transported to a hospital.
Stucky acknowledged that while she doesn’t blindly trust the DHS, it’s vital to approach stories that evoke sympathy with a critical lens, asking “But is this true?”
