A social media influencer known for showcasing his lifestyle with his wife has recently been sentenced for serious crimes related to child pornography.
Joshua David Stapleton, a 39-year-old from Georgia, received a 20-year prison sentence after pleading guilty to 15 counts of sexual exploitation of a child. This sentence includes five years in prison, followed by 15 years of probation, according to court records.
Stapleton and his wife managed the “Gulf Coast Staplettons” social media account, which gained significant popularity, amassing over 86,000 followers and more than a million likes across platforms like TikTok and Instagram.
Authorities found that between 2018 and 2020, Stapleton downloaded disturbing images involving children in harmful situations.
Initially, he faced 15 charges for possession of child pornography but later faced an additional 40 counts of sexual exploitation. Ultimately, he accepted a plea deal that resulted in a guilty plea for 20 counts.
Their social media content primarily revolves around everyday activities, such as work, dining, and travel. Just last week, they shared videos from a trip to Orange Beach, Alabama.
In the wake of the allegations, Stapleton’s wife, Britanni Morris Stapleton, is working to counter what she describes as “misinformation” circulating online regarding her husband. She claims that he was upfront about the accusations from the start.
Britanni stated, “Josh was absolutely ahead of time with me about all the accusations. There was no secret.” She also addressed the narrative suggesting that they projected a “fake life” on social media.
“There’s nothing fake about it. It was our lives. We’re still happy; he and I have no issues,” she expressed in a post.
Currently, Stapleton remains in custody at the Bartow County Sheriff’s Office Jail.
