Born on July 27, 1968, in Sydney, Australia, McMahon’s lineage included Billy McMahon, who served as Australia’s prime minister from 1971 to 1972.
Initially starting as a model, McMahon shifted to acting, landing a leading role in the short-lived Australian soap The Power, The Passion, in 1989. He made his feature debut in 1992 with Wet and Wild Summer! alongside Elliot Gould.
After relocating to Hollywood post his Australian debut, he was cast in the NBC soap Another World in 1993, later starring in the crime drama Profiler.
It wasn’t until 2003, however, that he would play a major role as Christian Troy in Ryan Murphy’s drama Nip/Tuck, which earned him a Golden Globe nomination in 2005.
McMahon also had a notable role as Jess La Croix in the CBS series FBI: Most Wanted from 2020 to 2022, and starred as the villain Doctor Doom in both Fantastic Four films.
His recent projects included roles in the 2024 film Surfer and Netflix’s 2025 murder mystery series The Residence, where he portrayed an Australian prime minister.
Dorian Gregory, a co-star from Charmed, shared a poignant remembrance of McMahon, calling him “beautiful and talented.” He reflected on the loss, expressing, “The words are never enough, so I’m speechless,” and extended his sincere condolences to McMahon’s family and loved ones, stating that his presence will be missed.
