Dinomite Day at the Box Office
There was quite the buzz at the theaters this past Friday, thanks to the release of “Jurassic World Rebirth.” It spiced up box office numbers right from the get-go.
The seventh installment in the Jurassic Park series brought in $26.3 million on its opening day, securing the top spot. It’s definitely made a significant impact, according to the latest reports.
However, the film has faced some criticism. One review described it as “Another Embarrassing Dino Letred,” calling out characters played by Scarlett Johansson and Jonathan Bailey as being, well, quite predictable.
This marks Johansson’s first venture into the Jurassic universe, a franchise she’s admired since she first watched “Jurassic Park” back in ’93.
Johansson shared a personal snippet about her childhood enthusiasm, saying, “I was really into this movie. I was sleeping in my bedroom in a puppy tent in Jurassic Park. I shared it with my sister for a year.” She mentioned, in an interview, that whenever news about a new ‘Jurassic’ film breaks, they joke about contacting an agent, saying, “Hey, I’m available.”
The latest “Jurassic World” film, which debuted on Wednesday, was projected to rake in around $141 million over the extended weekend, which is quite an impressive forecast.
In contrast, “F1: The Movie,” which had held the top position last week, slipped down to second place. This action-packed drama features Brad Pitt playing a Formula One driver, and it reportedly pulled in an estimated $144 million internationally over the weekend.
This weekend marked a career milestone for Pitt, as it’s his biggest opening weekend yet in his 37 years as an actor.
In a recent podcast, Pitt expressed his interest in a sequel to the film that was shot during the 2023 and 2024 F1 seasons. He said, “Absolutely. It’s a bold idea, and you can’t think of any other films that have happened before. You can embed yourself in the race season. I’ve spent my time in my life.”
Meanwhile, “How to Train a Dragon” slipped down the rankings, earning $2.88 million on its fourth Friday at the theaters.
Disney and Pixar’s “Elio” held firm in fourth place, bringing in about $1.5 million.
Lastly, the zombie thriller “28 Years Later” ranked fifth, with sales reaching $1.15 million.
