A brief rain delay couldn’t dampen the excitement as the crowd reacted with awe to flashes of lightning illuminating the outfield. The Yankees powered through to a 10-3 win over the Mariners, marking their second consecutive victory after a rough stretch of 6-16.
Giancarlo Stanton and Austin Wells showcased their power with home runs, contributing to the Yankees’ offensive surge. Stanton’s sixth home run and Aaron Judge’s 34th this season helped solidify their lead, as Judge also had a noteworthy solo shot in the game.
Will Warren, trying to bounce back from a shaky outing in Toronto, managed a scoreless 5²/₃ innings. Last week, he struggled, allowing four hits and walking two, which contributed to the Blue Jays sweeping the four-game series.
The Yankees’ relievers combined to secure the final outs of the game. Unfortunately, prior to the match, the team had to place Markwriter Jr. on the injured list due to a stress fracture.
Jazz Chisholm Jr., selected as an All-Star Reserve, made his return, while veteran DJ Lemahieu was left on the bench. Boone’s decision seemed to pay off, as Chisholm and Paul Goldschmidt brought in three RBIs during the Yankees’ impressive showing.
Stanton lit up the field, hitting three from the right against Seattle’s starter Logan Gilbert, showcasing his recent return from the injured list. Meanwhile, Wells made a significant impact with a two-run homer as the Yankees launched a 6-0 run.
Gilbert had a solid start, retiring the first 11 batters before Bellinger managed a single, breaking the Yankees’ silence at the plate.
Warren kept the Mariners at bay initially, but the game was briefly paused due to worsening rain. Nonetheless, he was efficient and controlled Seattle’s potent offense.
Although the Mariners’ JP Crawford started with an infield single, overall, Seattle struggled to connect early on. It wasn’t until the fifth when young players began to make a mark, adding some tension to the game.
After the rain delay, Warren returned with determination, striking out Crawford. The Yankees then rallied, with Goldschmidt’s single igniting their offensive potential.
As Warren faced challenges in the sixth, he was eventually relieved, but the Yankees maintained a comfortable lead, showcasing a solid team performance against the Mariners.
