Yankees Secure Victory as Judge and Raleigh Shine
In an exciting matchup on Tuesday night, the Yankees triumphed over the Mariners with a score of 10-3. Interestingly, the only MLB player to hit more home runs than Aaron Judge this season was on the opposing team.
Mariners’ switch-hitting catcher Cal Raleigh belted his 36th home run of the season, marking the highest total in the league.
“It’s something both teams are quite accustomed to, getting on the board,” Yankees manager Aaron Boone remarked after the team’s second consecutive win. “At this stage of the season, having two players in their mid-30s performing this well is a testament to their special seasons.”
Notably, Raleigh’s 36 home runs come before the All-Star break, setting a record for catchers in baseball history.
Boone praised Raleigh before the game, pointing out his unique contributions: “Given his position and the rarity of success in that role, he’s really making a mark this season in terms of power.”
He added, “Raleigh has been consistent from both sides of the plate and is a top defender behind the plate. It’s impressive.” Boone’s enthusiasm indicates that they recognize the talent’s impact.
On another note, Cam Schlitler is set to make his major league debut as the Yankees’ starting pitcher on Wednesday night. The 24-year-old, who has a 6-6 record with a 2.82 ERA across 15 games this season in Double-A and Triple-A, is someone to watch.
Boone expressed excitement about Schlitler’s presence on the taxi squad and highlighted his progress from last season: “He has shown tremendous potential.” It appears the team’s confidence in him is well justified.
The Yankees also plan for pitcher Luis Gil to begin his minor league rehabilitation on Sunday. Gil hasn’t pitched yet this season due to injury issues, but the team is optimistic about his return.
In a nostalgic moment, former Yankees pitcher Jim Abbott threw a ceremonial first pitch. Abbott’s journey in the MLB was particularly inspiring, as he achieved success despite being born without a right hand.
“It’s an incredible feeling to be back,” Abbott remarked. “I have cherished memories from my time here and wearing the pinstripes was always special.”
