Mother and son identified after shocking skeletal remains found in Connecticut home acquired at foreclosure auction

Recently, two skeletal remains found in a foreclosed home in Connecticut have been identified as a mother and son. The individuals are Brian Cash, aged 22, and his mother, Sally Ann Cash, who was 54.

The discovery was made in a Burlington residence during an auction earlier this month. Authorities noted that although the body of a third person has yet to be identified, initial investigations revealed no signs of foul play.

According to police, the homeowner stumbled upon the remains after purchasing the property “as is”. This unsettling discovery prompted him to call 911 a week later.

The Cash family originally bought the home in 2019 and had a loan of $385,000. However, they ceased mortgage payments in December 2024, and even utility services had been inactive for several months.

U.S. Marshal Grant Carragher had attempted to deliver a foreclosure complaint to the Cashes in August 2025, but was unable to reach them. He mentioned facing considerable difficulty finding the house, which was almost concealed by overgrown vegetation.

Neighbors reported that they hadn’t seen the residents for quite some time—years, in fact. The property was ultimately auctioned off for $525,000 on June 6, significantly below the bank’s appraisal by about $300,000.

Attempts to contact the Cashes went unanswered, and they failed to appear in court regarding the foreclosure process. Detectives with the Connecticut State Police Western District Major Crimes Unit are currently investigating the situation.

Investigators have emphasized that this seems to be an isolated incident and reassured the public that there is no ongoing danger.
