Children Rescued from Hot Car in Georgia

Last month, two young children in Georgia were saved from a hot car in a mall parking lot, thanks to bystanders who noticed their cries and called 911.

Cobb County Police shared bodycam footage of the rescue that occurred on June 4th. Officers arrived at Cumberland Mall just after the emergency call, around 1 PM, where they found a boy and girl trapped in a vehicle outside a Dick’s Sporting Goods store.

The 911 calls indicated that the children were quite young and in distress inside the vehicle. One caller relayed, “We just came out of the store and heard the kids crying,” adding that the windows were broken.

The officers acted swiftly, breaking the driver’s side windows to access the children, who were both in the back seat without proper restraints.

Upon returning to the scene, J’Quawn Dixon was arrested and now faces two felony counts of child cruelty. It remains unclear if he is the father of the children.

Reports indicate that Dixon left the children in the vehicle for 41 minutes without air conditioning, leading to what police described as “cruel or excessive physical or mental pain” to minors. According to bodycam footage, Dixon entered the mall around 12:24 PM, with police arriving shortly after the 911 call.

On that day, temperatures reached 87 degrees, and an infrared thermometer showed it could have soared to 117 degrees inside the car.

Cobb County police expressed gratitude to the bystanders who called for help, stating, “Your prompt action is why these children are safe today. You saw something and did something, and it made all the difference.”

Dixon was booked at Cobb County Jail with a bond set at $10,000 and was released the following day, according to reports.
