NATO Responds to Large-Scale Russian Drone Attack in Ukraine

A NATO jet was scrambled overnight in response to a significant drone attack by Russia, which involved over 700 drones, according to officials. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky reported that the large-scale assault included various models of 728 drones, with more than 300 being of the Shahed type, alongside 13 missiles (Kinzhal and Iskander).

“Most of the targets were intercepted. We utilized interceptor drones, and dozens of enemy targets were destroyed, showcasing advancements in our technology,” Zelensky noted. “Mobile fire groups were also operational during the attack.”

The Ukrainian Air Force indicated that the focus was primarily on the city of Rutsk in the northwest. Initial reports suggested that air defenses managed to neutralize 718 enemy attack vehicles, with 303 being shot down and 415 people affected at the site.

In parallel, military sources in Ukraine and neighboring Poland stated that coordination between Ukraine, Poland, and Allied forces was active. “All available resources under Polish military operational commanders will be mobilized, including deploying service fighter jets and ground air defense systems,” they said.

Later, the official mentioned that as the risk of missile strikes from Russia diminished, operations in Polish airspace returned to standard protocols.

Damage reports came in from several cities, including Dnipro, Zhytomyr, Kyiv, and others. “This attack is a stark reminder of the ongoing situation we face and highlights the challenges in our pursuit of peace and a ceasefire,” Zelensky emphasized.

“We need to enforce sanctions on those who purchase Russian oil and thereby fund these assaults. Our partners understand how to compel Russia to reconsider its violent actions,” he added. “True advocates for peace must take action.”
