Solana Meme Coin Launchpad Pump.fun Announces PUMP Token With Airdrop Expected Soon

Simply put

  • Pump.Fun has announced the launch of its pump token ICO on July 12, with 150 billion tokens being sold. However, participation is restricted for US and UK residents.
  • The tokens will hit major exchanges like Bybit, Kraken, and Kucoin, with transfers set to begin 48-72 hours after the sales conclude on July 18.
  • Out of a total supply of 1 trillion tokens, 33% is allocated for the ICO, 24% for community initiatives, 20% for teams, and 13% for existing investors.

Pump.Fun, a popular Solana Token LaunchPad, confirmed its first token offering on July 12. Unfortunately, US and UK citizens are barred from buying tokens.

To participate, users must complete KYC (Know Your Customer) verification and can join the token sale via UTC on July 12 at 2 PM. The sale will conclude on July 15 or once the 150 billion tokens are sold.

Tokens will be available within 48-72 hours after the sale ends, meaning they’ll be live by July 18. The announcement also promises soon-to-come airdrops.

It’s important to note again that US and UK citizens can’t participate in the sale. This restriction is partly due to warnings from the Financial Conduct Authority in the UK.

“We chose to return to tradition by launching the pump via ICO,” said Alon Cohen, a co-founder of Pump.Fun. He mentioned that ICOs have effectively distributed tokens to a wide audience aligned with the project, enhancing investor interest.

The total token supply of 1 trillion includes allocations of 24% for community initiatives, 20% for the Pump.Fun team, and 13% for existing investors. The remaining 33% is designated for the ICO. There’s also about 10% that will be used for liquidity offerings.

“We are contemplating utility mechanisms like fee rebates, token buybacks, and other promotions,” the announcement added.

Cohen mentioned that Pump.Fun’s goal is to improve the quality, sustainability, and diversity of coins on the platform. They also want to enhance social aspects of memecoin trading and potentially expand their team through investments in livestreaming. The funds raised may help reach these objectives.

“Our mission is to outperform Facebook, Tiktok, and Twitch, in Solana,” the announcement concluded.

Haseeb Qureshi, a managing partner at Dragonfly Venture Fund, suggested that this ICO could be “one of the biggest” to date.

Previous leak

This announcement follows leaks earlier in the week regarding the token sales on major exchanges like Bybit and gate.io.

Details about restrictions for European users were initially posted and then removed by Bybit Ukraine.

An ambassador from the Official Bybit Ukrainian Telegram Group confirmed to Decryption that the planned announcement was set for 14:00 UTC but was accidentally posted prematurely. While official announcements could alter the situation, the details shared in the post were accurate at the time.

On Tuesday, gate.io briefly published a page detailing a $600 million token sale but quickly took it down. That page didn’t mention any European restrictions but reflected the Bybit blog’s content.

Both exchanges have now officially confirmed their involvement in the pump token sales.

Officials from Pump.Fun and Bybit did not immediately respond to requests for comments.
