US Military Aid to Ukraine Resumes
WASHINGTON – After President Trump reconsidered his earlier decision, the US has restarted military support for Ukraine. This move comes as both US and Ukrainian officials highlight the urgent need for assistance against escalating Russian air assaults.
Last week, just as aid shipments were headed to Ukraine, US defense officials unexpectedly halted deliveries, doing so without prior consultation with the White House.
Some of the aid had already reached Poland by that point.
The shipment includes precision-guided rockets known as the Guided Multiple Launch Rocket System (GMLRS). These systems are part of the Patriot missile defense framework and are designed to intercept Russian missiles.
Additionally, the package contains 155mm ammunition, critical for howitzers that Ukraine utilizes to defend its lands against advancing Russian forces.
In recent conversations with Ukrainian journalists, Trump emphasized his intention to increase the supply of these defensive systems. During a heartfelt exchange in The Hague last month, he remarked on the challenges of acquiring such weapons, stating, “We need them too.” He mentioned that they had previously supplied them to Israel, highlighting their effectiveness.
This renewed support comes at a pivotal time in the ongoing conflict. Notably, on a recent Tuesday night, Moscow executed its largest airstrike to date, deploying 13 cruise and ballistic missiles alongside 728 drones, including Shahed and Decoy types.
This strike surpassed the previous record set just days earlier, where Russia had sent 539 drones and 11 missiles into Ukrainian airspace.
During a cabinet meeting, the President expressed his irritation with Russian President Vladimir Putin, lamenting the heavy loss of life and questioning the ongoing war’s direction. “A lot of people are dying, so it should be over,” he said to reporters, adding that he feels overwhelmed by the situation.
Trump reiterated his concerns to White House reporters, expressing his dissatisfaction with the current state of affairs.
In an exclusive interview, Andri Yahmack, a top advisor to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, conveyed gratitude to Trump for the resumption of weapon shipments, stating, “We would be happy if President Trump could help us achieve just and durable peace in this war with Russia.” He added that the pressure from Trump is showing results.
