The Dodgers and Brewers appear to have a strong connection lately.
Following the first pitch of the final game of the series between these Milwaukee teams, the Dodgers announced a trade. They sent minor league outfielder Steward Bellro to the Brewers in exchange for cash considerations.
Some fans were caught off guard by the news, especially since 26-year-old Berroa could have experienced the moment of walking to the opposing dugout at American Family Field. However, he missed out on this since he was playing in Triple A.
The Brewers managed to wrap up an impressive sweep against one of the top teams in the National League, claiming a 3-2 win over the Dodgers in 10 innings.
A 5-foot-9 switch hitter from the Dominican Republic, Berroa, might not have anticipated being traded for cash considerations.
He joined the Dodgers from the Blue Jays on May 12 and spent his entire time in the organization at Triple A Oklahoma City, boasting a .330 batting average with 11 RBIs over 97 at-bats.
The Brewers quickly assigned him to Triple A Nashville but then put him on the injured list due to a right shoulder issue, according to reports.
While trades during ongoing series are quite rare, there have been a few instances where teams have made exchanges mid-series.
For example, in 2018, the Diamondbacks and Rangers traded pitchers Jake Diekman and Wei-Chieh Huang right at the trade deadline while their series was happening in Phoenix. Diekman even used a bullpen cart to move from one clubhouse to the other.
Another notable moment occurred in 2016 when the Astros traded pitcher Scott Feldman to the Blue Jays right at the deadline while they played against the team.
Perhaps even more unusual was the 2024 trade involving catcher Danny Jansen moving from the Blue Jays to the Red Sox. Jansen was traded on July 27, yet Boston and Toronto had an ongoing game suspended since June 26 because of rain. When they finally resumed the game a month later, Jansen had already joined the Red Sox, making him the first player in MLB history to represent two teams in a single game.
