Emirates Teams Up with Crypto.com for Crypto Payments

Emirates, the Dubai-based airline, has formed a partnership with Crypto.com to incorporate cryptocurrency payments into its system.

The plan is to implement this integration by 2026. Interestingly, Emirates had mentioned back in 2022 that it was considering Bitcoin payments.

They’ve signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Crypto.com to explore how the exchange’s crypto payment capabilities can be integrated into their services. The announcement indicates that this feature will be officially integrated next year.

Integrating cryptocurrency into its payment systems showcases Emirates’ desire to adapt to changing customer preferences, particularly targeting younger, tech-savvy individuals who prefer digital currencies.

However, it remains unclear what specific services or products will allow cryptographic payments, and whether various types of cryptocurrencies will be accepted.

Crypto.com allows merchants to accept over 20 settlement options, which include cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin and Ethereum, as well as traditional currencies such as USD and EUR. The service is reportedly utilized by more than 4,000 businesses.

There’s a hope that partnering with notable companies like Emirates will drive momentum in the digital asset space and enable innovative financial solutions for customers.

Businesses are also planning promotional campaigns to increase awareness of crypto payment options moving forward.

In a separate but related move, earlier this year, Crypto.com signed an agreement with Dubai’s finance department to facilitate payments for government fees as part of the city’s “Cashless Strategy” initiative.

It appears that representatives from both Emirates and Crypto.com haven’t responded yet to inquiries regarding this partnership.
