Devin Booker Signs Major Contract Extension with the Suns
Devin Booker has reached a significant deal with the Suns, securing a two-year contract extension worth $145 million, which ensures his presence in Phoenix until the end of the 2029-30 season. This news, reported by ESPN’s Shams Charania, marks the largest contract extension in NBA history in terms of annual salary.
Since being drafted 13th overall in 2015, Booker has established himself as the backbone of the franchise. Over ten seasons, he has set franchise records, including 16,452 career points and 1,424 three-pointers made.
Last season, he averaged over 25 points for the seventh time in a row, shooting an impressive 46.1% from the field. This extension really highlights the Suns’ commitment to him, especially in light of recent developments for the team.
Back in 2022, Booker had signed a four-year, $224 million Super Max Extension. Earlier this week, discussions around extending his contract intensified, with reports indicating team owner Matt Ishbia would meet with Booker in Las Vegas to finalize details.
The average annual value (AAV) of the contract extension stands at $72.5 million. It’s notable that this eclipses Shai Gilgeous-Alexander’s AAV of $71.25 million for his four-year contract.
Interestingly, Ishbia had previously dismissed the idea of trading Booker, stating, “It’s never going to happen. That’s ridiculous. I have Devin Booker in his prime. You need a great player to win the NBA championship.”
As the Suns navigate their future direction after trading Kevin Durant, Booker remains a crucial figure in their plans moving forward.
