Richard Gere, you’ve really hurt my feelings.
Lulu Simon, the daughter of iconic musician Paul Simon, is expressing her frustrations with the “Pretty Woman” star after he sold his childhood home in Connecticut to a developer who intends to demolish it for new construction.
“I just want to clarify that, yes, I still dislike Richard Gere!” Simon posted on her Instagram story on Tuesday.
The 30-year-old singer alleged that Gere had promised to care for the 31.8-acre property in New Canaan when he purchased it in 2022.
“He bought a house from my childhood,” Simon said. “He promised to take care of the land. But, I guess he just sold it to developers as nine separate lots.”
Lulu, who has over 2.5k monthly Spotify listeners, aired her grievances on social media with a modified photo featuring her childhood pet and Gere’s image.
“I hope my dead pet is buried in that backyard,” she quipped.
No further details were given regarding the supposed agreement.
Despite the complaints surrounding the sale, the property hasn’t exactly been a successful investment for its previous owners. Paul Simon and Edie Brickell, both Grammy-winning musicians, faced challenges selling their large mansion in the past.
The couple purchased the home, known for being the birthplace of many hit albums, for $16.5 million in 2002.
By 2019, they had listed it for $13.9 million, but after years of fluctuating prices, Gere acquired it for $10.8 million in 2022.
The residence boasted six bedrooms, seven bathrooms, and multiple fireplaces, along with a sizable guesthouse, pond, pool, and courtyard.
Gere originally intended to convert a portion of the property into a farm.
However, after only two years, Gere and his wife Alejandra decided to sell the home in an off-market deal to a developer for $1.75 million in October 2024. This decision came as they aimed to relocate to Spain to be nearer to Alejandra’s family.
In an April 2024 interview, Gere expressed gratitude towards Alejandra, saying, “She has been so generous in sharing her life with me for six years, so it feels right to support her move.”
