Secret Service Agents Suspended After Trump’s Rally Shooting Incident

Six Secret Service agents have been suspended without pay following an attempt on President Donald Trump’s life during a rally in Pennsylvania last July. According to Matt Quinn, the agency’s deputy director, he wasn’t looking to fire anyone initially. He mentioned that the focus is now on addressing the underlying issues that led to this failure.

Quinn elaborated that the penalties for the agents varied between 10 to 42 days of unpaid leave. Upon their return, they would have limited roles with reduced responsibilities. He emphasized that this disciplinary action followed a mandatory federal process.

The Secret Service hasn’t confirmed these details independently, even after Fox News Digital reached out for confirmation.

Details of the Incident

The agency faced criticism for not preventing the attack on July 13, 2024, when the gunman, Thomas Crooks, fired at the stage during the rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. Tragically, Corey Comperatore, a firefighter and father, was killed in the shooting, while two others were injured. Crooks was killed by a Secret Service sniper.

Quinn stated that the agency is now taking full responsibility for what happened at Butler and is committed to ensuring it doesn’t happen again. He mentioned that the agency is concentrating on identifying the “root causes” of such operational failures and correcting the flaws that allowed for the attack.

In response to the incident, the Secret Service has introduced military-grade drones and mobile command posts to enhance communication with local law enforcement.

Further Criticism and Investigations

A bipartisan House Task Force released a 180-page report asserting that the Butler incident was “preventable.” The report highlighted issues with leadership and training that contributed to the environment allowing such security breaches, noting that better coordination with local law enforcement is crucial.
