Springfield’s Yawn Sparks Lighthearted Interview Moment

Pop rock legend Rick Springfield made headlines during a recent appearance on NBC’s “Today” show, where he unexpectedly yawned in front of host Craig Melvin. The live segment took a turn when Melvin and Springfield discussed the artist’s iconic ’80s hit, “Jesse’s Girl,” and Springfield noticed something strange happening off-camera.

As Springfield continued to chat, he appeared somewhat distracted. He then paused to directly ask Melvin, “Am I boring you?” A light-hearted exchange followed, with Melvin apologizing and insisting he hadn’t yawned, but was merely coughing. This claim was met with laughter from his co-hosts, Al Roker and Jill Martin.

Despite the awkward moment, the conversation quickly moved on as Springfield continued to joke with the hosts while promoting his “I Want My 80s Tour,” which is set to launch in February 2025.

After the interview, Springfield seemed to take it all in stride, posting on Facebook, “We had a great time with the gang on today’s show this morning!” He added a playful reminder to Melvin: “You were hilarious, but please remind me if you’re around, don’t yawn…”

During the chat, Springfield also opened up about a serious incident from his past. He revealed that he discovered he had brain damage following a fall from the stage at a 2000 show in Las Vegas. “I actually fell 25 feet through the steel stage,” he recounted, explaining how faulty gear had contributed to the accident, which left him with broken wrists and subsequent brain damage.

Now at 75, Springfield shows no signs of slowing down. He plans to tour until mid-October and is actively working on new music. “I’m writing a new album now. I have my guitar, keyboards, and a little recorder here,” he shared. “It’s more adventurous and a bit heavier this time.”
