Douglas McKee’s Meme Sentencing Overturned

Douglas McKee received a seven-month prison sentence under the Biden administration for sharing a meme related to Hillary Clinton’s campaign, but his conviction has since been overturned.

The meme depicted a black woman with signs reading “African Americans for President Hillary,” accompanied by the text, “Vote for Hillary and become a part of history.”

Glenn Beck, co-founder of Blaze Media, commented, “To believe this, you really have to be a nincompoop. But, there are definitely a lot of nincompoops out there.” He noted that once Biden took office, McKee faced this harsh penalty.

According to Beck, “The federal judge revoked this verdict, and he’s now free from what could be seen as an outrageous attempt at stifling free speech.” McKee shared his relief, stating, “It’s a great day to be American,” during a conversation with Beck.

Interestingly, McKee learned about his freedom on the first day of a vacation with his family, when his trial lawyer texted him with “Congratulations.” He remarked, “It was a remarkable way to start the holidays.” Reflecting on the past four and a half years, he recalled the moment four FBI agents arrived at his door, just a week after Biden’s inauguration.

Mackey detailed that the agents announced, “Are you Douglas Mackey? We have a warrant for your arrest.” He was taken aback, asking, “What for?” He had no idea that a meme would lead to such serious legal trouble, especially since he wasn’t even active on Twitter at the time.

He mentioned, “Sure, I tweeted thousands of times during the 2016 election cycle. But this? I had no clue.” McKee was eventually charged under a federal law pertaining to the Ku Klux Klan Act.

He expressed disbelief, saying, “Some folks, when facing this, might just plead out instead of fighting it. Yet, to be charged under the KKK Act? That’s just outrageous.” He also pointed out that Donald Trump faced similar legal issues under the same statute.
