Jamie Dimon on his Democratic friends: 'Generous but not very thoughtful'

Jamie Dimon, the CEO of JPMorgan Chase, criticized the Democratic Party on Thursday for emphasizing diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives instead of more practical solutions. He expressed his frustrations during an event in Ireland, stating, “I’m a Democrat and they’re idiots,” as reported by Bloomberg.

Dimon remarked that the party often showcases aspirations without fully understanding the realities of the world. “They have big minds and small brains,” he noted, implying that many Democratic policies lack grounded understanding.

He suggested that the persistent focus on DEI is excessive, asserting that they need to recalibrate their approach. “We’ve been devoted to reaching out to diverse communities, but it’s time to be more practical,” he said. In March, JPMorgan had even adjusted its approach to DEI, favoring a focus on equal opportunities over equal outcomes.

Dimon pointed out that this shift followed a federal executive order from President Trump aimed at banning DEI practices. He also took the opportunity to critique former President Biden, stating that he is dismayed by the administration’s lack of business insight, leaving him “lost for words” regarding certain missteps.

As Democrats regroup after a tough electoral loss, Dimon hinted at a candidate like New York City mayoral contender Zohran Mamdani. He described Mamdani as leaning more towards Marxism, suggesting that some Democrats are addressing real issues like affordable housing and rising grocery prices while still tangled in a web of ideological thinking that doesn’t translate well into practical solutions.
