Carlos Correa Injured in Game Against Pirates
In a tense moment during the Minnesota Twins’ 2-1 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates on Friday, star shortstop Carlos Correa was forced to exit the game due to an injury. This incident occurred at the top of the seventh inning.
As Pirates left fielder Tommy Femme hit a line drive while trying to reach second base, Twins right fielder Dashaun Keaasi Jr. retrieved the ball and sent it to Correa. In an impressive athletic move, Correa tagged Femme, but the collision led to Femme’s head striking Correa’s ankle, causing an unusual twist.
Correa fell in pain and, after a brief delay, was assisted off the field by the athletic staff. The team later confirmed that he had sustained a mild ankle sprain.
With over 100 games under his belt in only six seasons, Correa has had his share of struggles. Last season, he played just 86 games due to issues like concussions and plantar fasciitis. This season, he has been performing below his usual standards, holding a batting average of .261 with 30 RBIs and a .687 OPS, far from his career average of .274 with 194 home runs and 702 RBIs.
The Twins, currently second in the American League Central, cannot afford to lose him for an extended period. They are set to face the Pirates again on Saturday at 2:10 PM ET, though Correa is not expected to be part of the starting lineup.
