Coco Gauff speaks to Amanda Anisimova following her Wimbledon disappointment

Support for Amanda Anisimova After Wimbledon Loss

After her match at Wimbledon, Amanda Anisimova received a wave of support, including from fellow American Coco Gauff.

The two-time Grand Slam champion reached out after Anisimova’s tough defeat against Iga Swiatek, who swept the match 6-0, 6-0 on the final Saturday of the women’s singles competition.

This loss marked a significant moment, as it was the first time a player had exited a women’s final without winning a single game since 1988, according to ESPN.

Even though she faced elimination early in the tournament, Gauff expressed her pride in Anisimova’s journey on X, using three heart and crown emojis in her message.

At just 23, Anisimova made her first appearance in a major final, marking a notable achievement for American tennis. Her semi-final win positioned her as the fourth American woman to reach the finals of four consecutive majors.

Billy Jean King also acknowledged Anisimova’s accomplishments, congratulating Swiatek and praising Anisimova’s efforts.

Fans quickly rallied around Anisimova, emphasizing their support across social media. One user remarked they would continue to back her, while another expressed disbelief at the overwhelming criticism Anisimova faced.

Born in Freehold Township, New Jersey, Anisimova reached the semi-finals of the 2019 French Open but faced a series of personal challenges, including the sudden death of her father that same year. Following a struggle with mental health during the pandemic, she took a break from tennis in 2023 after disappointing results.

Returning to the sport, she initially fell outside the top 400 rankings but has staged an impressive comeback this year. Anisimova captured the title at the Qatar Open in February, reached the Queen’s Club Final in June, and advanced to the 16th round at Roland Garros.

By July, she re-entered the top ten rankings and stunned No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka to secure her place in the Wimbledon final.

Emotional during the awards ceremony, Anisimova thanked her supporters, noting the incredible atmosphere and expressing regret over her performance, yet reaffirming her appreciation for those who continue to lift her up.
