Iranian President Injured in Israeli Airstrike

Reports from state media indicate that Iranian President Masuud Pezeshkian sustained injuries during an Israeli airstrike that struck a notable conference in Tehran amid ongoing conflict.

Pezeshkian, who accused Israel of attempting to assassinate him last week, was attending an emergency meeting of the nation’s highest security board on June 16, as noted by Fars News. This meeting took place in Tehran’s underground facilities.

During the gathering, six bombs were dropped in the vicinity, leading to Pezeshkian and other officials being told they had incurred foot injuries while escaping the emergency shelter.

According to the state outlet, the airstrikes were precisely executed, blocking all six main entrances, exits, and ventilation systems of the site.

The attack resulted in a power outage at the underground facility, but Pezeshkian and the other officials were able to survive.

The report also provided insights into Pezeshkian’s statements from an interview last week. He claimed he was targeted during a crucial meeting. “Yes, they tried. They acted accordingly, but they failed,” he mentioned when asked about being an assassination target.

Pezeshkian elaborated, “I was at the meeting. We were discussing how to move forward, but thanks to the intelligence from spies they had, they tried to bomb the area where we were holding that meeting.”

In response, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz denied the allegations, stating that the focus of the 12-day conflict was not an assassination but rather Tehran’s nuclear facilities.

This purported assassination attempt has led to an internal inquiry about how Israeli agents became aware of Pezeshkian’s activities and the locations of critical national security council meetings.

The Council, which operates as the leading authority in Tehran under the supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, was also at risk during the military actions, though Khamenei reportedly escaped harm by going into hiding.

Following the 12-day conflict, Iranian authorities have detained more than 700 individuals and reported at least six deaths in a crackdown on suspected espionage activities across the nation.
