Tragic Shooting of Berkeley Professor in Greece
A business professor from Berkeley, California, was tragically shot and killed by a masked assailant during the day while visiting Greece for a custody hearing.
Przemyslaw Jeziorski, aged 43, was shot five times in the chest and neck on July 4th near his ex-wife’s residence on the outskirts of Athens. Authorities confirmed he died at the scene.
Witnesses described the suspect as a tall, athletic man who fled on foot. Investigators are currently looking into Jeziorski’s murder.
Jeziorski had been a faculty member at the Haas Business School in Berkeley for eight years. He traveled to Greece for a custody hearing regarding his two children.
His brother, Lucas Zeziorsky, expressed the family’s heartbreak and their determination to seek justice through a crowdfunding page. He emphasized Przemek’s role as a loving father and a respected professor at Berkeley, noting his significant contributions to marketing science, industrial organization, and data analysis.
The brother is raising funds for legal expenses, the process of returning Przemek’s body to Poland, and related costs.
In response to the tragic loss, Jennifer Chatman from Berkeley Haas released a statement honoring Jeziorski as a “beloved” member of the community. She conveyed sympathy to his family and pledged support during this challenging time.
Professor Zsolt Katona, a colleague, described Jeziorski as a distinguished scholar and shared his sadness over the senseless nature of the tragedy. Katona remarked on Przemek being not just a great colleague, but a devoted father.
Jeziorski was noted for his significant impact within both research and marketing fields. He held academic credentials from prominent institutions, including SGH Warsaw Economics, University of Arizona, University of Chicago, and Stanford University. Before joining Haas in 2012, he also taught at Johns Hopkins University and interned at Microsoft.
His research primarily focused on areas such as quantitative marketing, industrial organizations, antitrust issues, digital marketing, and financial technology, with his work published in several esteemed academic journals.
