Since the 1990s, U.S. federal agencies and media outlets have consistently warned citizens about the so-called “right militia.” Typically, these individuals are former military members obsessed with firearms who are seen as potentially eager to confront the government.
However, the intensity of this fear has surged since January 6, 2021. Yet, despite decades of warnings, the anticipated threat hasn’t materialized in the way they predicted. The government persists in misreading the situation.
Antifa groups are transforming—they’re shifting away from large protests in favor of smaller, more direct actions.
Despite all the dramatic language used over the years, the expected surge of “right-wing terrorism” hasn’t actually occurred. The events of January 6 reflect more of a breakdown in security than a true insurrection. Many involved were unarmed, and movements of the crowd were often benign, like walking through an open rope line. Still, the administration leveraged this incident to justify a broader narrative that painted millions of Americans in a negative light.
Senator Chuck Schumer has recently described January 6 as “the culmination of sustained efforts to undermine our democracy.” But what are these efforts really? Four years later, there’s been no significant violence or rebellion to speak of.
Attack in Alvarado
In another case, following months of threats against immigration officials, Antifa launched a well-coordinated attack on an ICE facility in Alvarado, Texas. This was no spontaneous protest; it was a calculated ambush.
At least 11 individuals in black tactical gear initiated the assault. They started by launching fireworks at the facility, damaging security cameras and tagging the buildings with slogans like “ICE Pigs” before attempting to lure agents outside.
When two unarmed officers arrived, one attacker opened fire from the trees, injuring an officer in the neck. Another suspect, wearing a green mask, shot at the officers multiple times.
Law enforcement apprehended 11 suspects; ten are facing charges of attempted murder and federal firearm violations. Another has been charged with obstruction. Authorities recovered a loaded AR-style rifle and various tactical gear.
Activist Andy Ngo linked the attackers to Antifa in Dallas-Fort Worth. It’s fortunate they didn’t succeed, yet we must remain vigilant regarding the level of funding and their willingness to act violently.
Ongoing Threats
In a separate incident, ICE agents faced another attack in Camarillo, California. This is indicative of a troubling trend and not an isolated incident.
The radical ideology—anti-American, Marxist, and anti-Zionist—fuels these actions, which have evolved into serious political violence. Just look at the past eight months:
- The assassination of a United Healthcare CEO in December 2024, with a manifesto criticizing the healthcare industry. Many within leftist circles lauded the act, and polls suggested young Democrats showed surprising tolerance toward it.
- A double murder of Israeli embassy staff in May 2024 by an attacker claiming to support Palestine and swearing allegiance to a manifesto that advocated for escalating violence.
- In June, a protest in Colorado escalated into violence when an Egyptian-American tried to incite harm using Molotov cocktails, resulting in a tragic death.
- In another incident, a pro-Israel Democrat, Pennsylvania’s Governor Josh Shapiro, was targeted when Molotov cocktails were thrown at his home.
- An attack on a police training facility in Atlanta involved a violent mob, leading to charges against multiple individuals for domestic terrorism.
- The Portland attack on an ICE facility featured fireworks and disruption, with over 20 arrests and connections to a socialist network.
- Violence erupted in Salt Lake City, leaving an innocent bystander dead due to apparent miscommunication among leftist protestors.
- A bomb maker was arrested in Pennsylvania with multiple weapons and explosives, illustrating the growing menace.
- Attacks on Tesla and Republican offices across the country reportedly surged when Elon Musk joined the Trump administration.
Understanding the Reality
While not all incidents can be traced back to the same organization, they signal a dangerous trend: the increasing coordination, sophistication, and potential lethality among left-wing extremists.
This isn’t merely about protests crossing a line; it’s a display of readiness for conflict. These groups are training, arming themselves, and becoming more radicalized both online and in local activist communities. Contrary to past perceptions, they are no longer solely countered by conservative movements.
Steps to Take
First, it’s crucial that ANTIFA and its affiliates are designated as national terrorist organizations, enabling the tracking of their funding and investigating connections to various groups.
Second, law enforcement should be ramped up. Federal agents must respond to attacks with overwhelming force; minimal crowd control won’t suffice.
Third, states must empower themselves. Congress needs to legislate serious penalties for those who obstruct immigration enforcement. If the federal government fails to act, states must intervene.
Lastly, citizens should remain vigilant—armed and trained. Community organizations should follow Pinal County’s lead in establishing local defense initiatives.
Context of Fear
For years, mainstream media and activists have been issuing warnings about “armed rebels.” They claimed a militia movement was lurking just around the corner, stirring fears of imminent domestic turmoil.
They were right—just not about the source. The real threat has emerged from within their own ranks.
