Parents often resort to various tricks to keep their baby calm during flights.
Pacifiers, toys, tablets—whatever works, right?
However, one mother has come up with an incredibly simple solution.
Who needs toys when you have lettuce?
“If you’re not bringing a head of lettuce for your baby on your next flight, what are you even doing?” asks Lara, a new mom.
Some social media influencers have been circulating a travel hack that many parents might have previously considered.
This was Lara’s 8-month-old daughter’s inaugural flight, and she wanted to be thoroughly prepared.
Fortunately, they timed their flight perfectly with her nap schedule, which was a major win.
“She dozed off during takeoff, but eventually, she woke up,” Lara recounted.
What now?
At home, young children often stay busy with lettuce during meals.
Why not replicate that on a plane?
“If it works at home, why wouldn’t it work in the air?” Lara noted.
“We were on the plane for almost three hours and packed the entire lettuce head just in case.”
Why not give it a try?
Lara mentioned that her daughter enjoys ripping things apart, whether it’s bread (too messy for a flight) or paper (which can get blown around).
This makes lettuce an ideal choice. It’s safe, nutritious, fun to handle, and great for developing motor skills.
“This kept her entertained for nearly the whole flight. We had a blast,” said Lara.
Comments on her post quickly poured in.
“You’re destined to be a wonderful mother!” someone exclaimed.
“We have a 14-hour flight next month with our baby. Should we bring an entire farm?” another user joked.
One commenter praised her: “You’re such an inventive parent!”
The best part? It’s not all that messy!
“When it’s time to clean up, I can just eat what’s left,” Lara explained.
“So not only am I entertaining my baby, but I’m also getting my greens in too.”
It might not make the official travel essentials list anytime soon, but inventive solutions from creative moms are always welcome.
Is this even allowed?
In Australia, passengers can typically bring solid foods like fresh produce on board.
