FBI Investigates Past Actions Regarding Trump
The FBI is reportedly looking into its earlier actions concerning President Donald Trump during a previous administration. This investigation aims to determine whether those actions amounted to a “magnificent plot” that could have improperly influenced U.S. elections.
There are reports detailing how the Trump administration alleged the FBI was weaponized regarding the Russian conspiracy narrative during the 2016 election. This includes legal challenges related to sorted documents against Trump that have resulted in charges in 2023. A source closely following the matter has suggested that this investigation might open doors for special advisers appointed by Trump to potentially bring criminal charges.
Recently, an investigation began under FBI Director Kash Patel. The FBI and the Department of Justice (DOJ) have not provided comments on this matter.
Sources indicate that two pieces of sorted evidence could play a crucial role if Trump decides to declassify them. This evidence might relate to classification records, which could suggest the FBI overlooked fraud in its investigation of former Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton. Another group of classified documents reportedly includes information on the “Clinton Plan Intelligence,” which the FBI referenced to justify its investigation into Trump.
Under former President Barack Obama, federal officials initiated investigations based on allegations that Trump colluded with Russia to secure the presidency. This was tied to the Clinton campaign and a misleading intelligence report funded by the Democratic National Committee (DNC). The investigation involved several attempts to scrutinize Trump and his 2016 campaign, while former special adviser John Durham highlighted largely unfounded allegations in his extensive report in 2023.
It has been noted that Trump’s FBI was also criminally examining leaders from the former intelligence community who were involved in the Trump-Russia inquiry. Before the 2020 election, the FBI reportedly set up a social media platform and suppressed content related to Hunter Biden’s laptop, labeling it as Russian disinformation. They were aware before the election that the laptop details might not be based on false claims, revealing aspects of his son’s challenging lifestyle and foreign business dealings. Republicans have long claimed that the FBI’s actions were aimed at unjustly swaying the election in favor of Joe Biden.
Moreover, conservatives have accused the Biden administration of using law enforcement to interfere in the upcoming 2024 election. Following Trump’s reelection in November 2024, former special adviser Jack Smith dropped the lawsuit that had been ongoing.
