Wimbledon 2025: Nick Kyrgios takes a jab at Jannik Sinner

Australian tennis player Nick Kyrgios recently took a jab at world No. 1 Janik Sinner, who claimed victory at Wimbledon for the first time, defeating Carlos Alcaraz in the final. Sinner won the match in four sets, but Kyrgios chose not to immediately acknowledge the Italian’s success.

Kyrgios had posted a comment on social media that was interpreted in light of past doping issues. Last year, Sinner faced scrutiny after testing positive for the anabolic steroid Crossteborg. The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) subsequently handed him a three-month suspension, with the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) stating that Sinner had not intentionally used any banned substances.

Back in March 2024, Sinner had detected low levels of Crossteborg metabolites, which is a prohibited anabolic steroid sometimes used for medical purposes. According to the ITIA, Sinner tested positive after getting a massage where a commercial spray containing the steroid was applied to a minor cut on his finger.

Despite his Wimbledon victory and a strong performance at the French Open against Alcaraz, the shadow of the doping allegation still looms over Sinner. Kyrgios has been quite vocal about his skepticism regarding the situation. He questioned the fairness of the penalties in a post on X earlier this year, suggesting that Sinner’s team had worked to mitigate his consequences, including retaining his title and any associated prize money.

Sinner has now racked up four Grand Slam titles: two from the Australian Open, one from the US Open, and of course, Wimbledon, with only the French Open remaining elusive.
