FBI Searches for Suspect in Texas Detention Facility Attack

As the FBI’s manhunt continues into its tenth day, the focus remains on a military veteran connected to a violent incident at a Texas immigration detention facility.

Benjamin Hanil Song, 32, became the prime suspect after an organized attack involving 10 to 12 individuals on July 4, aimed at officers at the Prairiland Detention Center in Alvarado, Texas.

The Dallas Field Office of the FBI speculates that Song might still be in the Dallas-Fort Worth area but has broadened his search efforts to include nearby states for safety.

The FBI has placed a $25,000 reward for tips that lead to Song’s arrest and conviction, emphasizing that he should be considered armed and dangerous.

Details of the Incident

Song, a former Marine Reserve, is accused of using two AR-15-style rifles during the attack, targeting several law enforcement personnel including two corrections officers and an Alvarado police officer. Charges against him, reported by media, describe a violent ambush, with one officer reportedly shot in the head while another attacker fired indiscriminately at the unarmed corrections staff outside the facility.

Currently, Song is facing multiple charges, including three counts of attempted murder of federal officers and three counts related to weapons offenses aimed at promoting violent crime.

The ongoing investigation highlights serious concerns surrounding safety in detention facilities and the implications of such attacks on law enforcement.
