Anniversary of Trump’s Assassination Attempt Sparks Controversy on Bluesky

On social media platform Bluesky, left-leaning users reflected on the first anniversary of what many believe was an assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump, raising various conspiracy theories surrounding the event.

On July 13, 2024, a shooter targeted Trump, injuring him in the right ear just minutes after he finished a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. In the aftermath, some Bluesky users expressed skepticism about the authenticity of the assassination attempt. “It’s sad that people lost their lives because of this gradual assassination of Trump,” commented user Andy Behrman.

The shooter, identified as 20-year-old Thomas Crooks, fired from a building approximately 400 feet away, not only injuring others but also tragically killing Corey Comperatore, a former volunteer fire chief.

A year has passed since the alleged assassination attempt on Trump, as noted in a post by Bill Kane, which suggested that the tragedy was staged. He lamented the death of a child involved, calling it a promotional stunt for Trump.

Kane remarked that, despite a year passing, there remains “zero information” about the motives behind the incident. He added some commentary on Trump’s injuries, posting an image of Trump with bandaging.

Following the shooting, a Secret Service counter-sniper reportedly killed Crooks while he was still positioned on the roof. Another Bluesky user, Craig R. Brittain, hinted at a conspiracy involving Elon Musk, claiming the incident was orchestrated as a hoax. “A year ago, Trump and Musk orchestrated this ‘assassination’ stunt, and unfortunately, it cost a firefighter his life,” Brittain stated.

Some users speculated that Trump was not shot but rather injured by glass. Yet the FBI confirmed to the Daily Caller News Foundation that a bullet was indeed the cause of Trump’s injury. Doug Mills from the New York Times captured a photograph showing a bullet flying near Trump’s head just before he began bleeding.

Kimberly Cittle, who was the director of the Secret Service during the incident, resigned shortly after the attempt.
