Cal Raleigh shares a touching moment with his dad and brother during the Home Run Derby.

The Home Run Derby turned into a memorable event for Cal Raleigh, also known as Big Damper. His father, Todd Lowry, pitched while his younger brother, Todd Lowry Jr., caught behind the plate.

In a truly heartwarming story, Raleigh clinched victory in the 2026 Home Run Derby, smashing 18 home runs, topping Rays’ infielder, Junior Kaminero.

“I can’t believe I won, that’s incredible,” Raleigh exclaimed in an interview.

The North Carolina native felt a strong sense of home at this year’s MLB All-Star Festival. He not only participated in the Home Run Derby but also started as the catcher for the American League team the following night in Atlanta.

Raleigh first defeated Brent Luker from the A’s to make it to the semi-finals. He then overcame Pittsburgh’s Onir Cruz to reach the final round.

Bringing his family into the spotlight, Raleigh expressed gratitude towards his father for the pivotal role he played in his baseball journey.

“It’s just a great achievement, and I think every dad with aspiring kids dreams of moments like this,” said Todd Lowry. “As a father, to see it happen for your son is incredible.”

Todd Lowry’s involvement was crucial, guiding his son toward a professional path, even shifting from a college coaching career in North Carolina to better support Raleigh’s ambitions.

In a moment of pure excitement, Todd raised his arms in joy as he watched his son hit the 15th home run during the Derby final.

Cal’s brother, Todd Jr., shared his thoughts about witnessing his brother’s success from behind the plate. He simply stated, “greatness,” when asked what he saw during the match.

Todd Lowry coached at various levels in West Carolina and Tennessee and even established a training facility at home in North Carolina.

Before the event, Cal reflected on his father’s influence, thanking him for the opportunities he provided. “My dad let me be a bat boy for his team. Those memories from the field mean so much,” he mentioned, hoping his father wouldn’t feel too nervous that night.
