Dave Roberts Prepares for All-Star Game
Atlanta – Dave Roberts has a fair amount of experience managing elite MLB players, to say the least. Last October, he guided the Dodgers to their second World Series championship. Now, he’s set to manage the MLB All-Star Game on Tuesday, a role he’s held previously in 2018, 2019, and 2021.
Roberts, taking the reins for the fourth time at this Midsummer Classic, mentioned he doesn’t see it as a “challenge,” which is interesting because it certainly feels like a big deal to many.
“I don’t have any extra innings… so, no challenges for me,” he told Fox News Digital. “It’s easy enough; my coaches handle pitching. I really enjoy the conversations… Plus, it’s fun interacting with the players and coaches. Everyone’s really just out here for a good time, especially during these important games.” He emphasized it’s great to be recognized for achieving success.
The Dodgers made significant moves this offseason, adding notable names to their roster. They’ve brought in two-time Cy Young Award winner Blake Snell, and Clayton Kershaw, who previously expressed his commitment to the team, has signed a new short-term deal. Alongside Kershaw, Shohei Ohtani, Freddie Freeman, Will Smith, and Yoshinobu Yamamoto will represent the Dodgers as 2025 All-Stars.
Roberts described the excitement among his team for the All-Star festivities, saying, “Freddie is back home.” Freeman, who left Atlanta after their 2021 World Series win, has continued to shine, earning MVP honors in the 2024 World Series with the Dodgers. The warm reception he’ll get from Braves fans should be interesting.
As for Roberts, he noted, “This break will be beneficial,” adding that it’s a good opportunity for everyone. While the spotlight can be overwhelming, he recognizes that the game needs star players like Freeman to advocate for it.
Managing the Dodgers for the past decade, Roberts has seen the team enter the All-Star break sitting atop the NL West Division.
The 2025 All-Star Game is set to kick off at 8 PM on Fox.
