Stevie Wonder Addresses Blindness Rumors During Cardiff Concert
Stevie Wonder recently tackled persistent rumors regarding his blindness during a performance in Cardiff, Wales, as part of his “Love, Light & Song” tour. Speaking candidly to the audience, he felt it was time to clarify things, saying, “When do you want to let the world know this? But I wanted to say that now.”
He opened up about the misconceptions surrounding his vision, stating, “Do you know there were rumors about what I’m watching, etc.? But seriously, you know the truth.” For clarity’s sake, he added, “The truth is, shortly after my birth, I became blind.”
During his talk, he emphasized the importance of looking beyond appearances, urging people to consider, “Look at people in their minds, not what they look like. Not what colour they are, what colour is their mind?”
These rumors about Wonder’s blindness have circulated for quite a while, often fueled by comments from other celebrities. For instance, former NBA player Shaquille O’Neal once claimed Wonder recognized him in an elevator, implying that the musician might actually see. Similarly, actor Anthony Anderson suggested during an appearance on “Late Show with Stephen Colbert” that Wonder’s blindness is merely an act. He remarked, “All you don’t know – Stevie can see. It’s just an act… Stevie Wonder won.”
Wonder’s illustrious career in the music industry began with hits like “Fingertips,” which was his first song to top the Hot 100 chart. The ongoing speculation about his eyesight has now become a part of the legend surrounding his iconic status.
