Jets Sign Garrett Wilson to Major Contract Extension
The New York Jets have locked in another of their rising stars. Reports indicate that the team has come to terms with standout wide receiver Garrett Wilson on a substantial four-year contract extension worth $130 million.
Just a day prior, the Jets made headlines by signing cornerback Sauce Gardner to a deal that reportedly makes him the highest-paid cornerback in NFL history.
Gardner’s extension, valued at $120 million over four years, will keep him with the Jets through 2030. He confirmed the deal himself via a post on social media, stating that “the transaction is complete.”
Having entered the league from Cincinnati just two seasons ago, Gardner quickly made an impression, being named Rookie of the Year. In his debut year, he recorded two interceptions and led the NFL with 20 passes defended.
Interestingly, Gardner didn’t maintain his All-Pro status last year and didn’t earn a Pro Bowl selection for the first time. Yet, he still showed strong performance with one interception and nine passes defended across 15 games.
With this new deal, Gardner will be earning $30.1 million annually, surpassing Houston Texans’ Derek Stingley Jr., making him the highest-paid cornerback ever.
Below is a quick rundown of the highest-paid cornerbacks in the NFL:
- New York Jets, Gardner: $30.1 million
- Derek Stingley Jr., Texans: $30 million
- Jacee Horn, Carolina Panthers: $25 million
- Jalen Ramsey, Pittsburgh Steelers: $24.1 million
- Patrick Surtain, Denver Broncos: $24 million
