Tragic Accident at California Food Processing Plant

A tragic incident over the weekend left a 19-year-old man dead after he fell into a meat grinder at a food processing facility in California.

The Vernon Police Department reported that the young man, whose name has not been disclosed, worked in the sanitation team for Tinaburitos, located on Vernon Avenue.

Authorities clarified that the Los Angeles County Fire Department responded to what has been labeled a “fatal industrial accident,” specifically involving industrial-grade food processors known as kettles.

This fatal event took place around 9:30 PM, with officials stating that it was classified as an industrial accident because the victim was cleaning the machine when it was inadvertently turned on.

Some of his colleagues reported hearing him yell for help and attempted to shut down the machinery but were unsuccessful. Unfortunately, by the time emergency services arrived, the young man had already succumbed.

The company expressed their sorrow about the incident, referring to it as a “devastating loss.”

“We are heartbroken to report that our sanitary worker was conducting cleaning operations at the Vernon facility on July 13, 2025,” the company stated. “He was cleaning a kettle that had been sanitized and prepared for the next day’s production. Despite the immediate response from colleagues and paramedics, he tragically died at the scene.”

The company extended their condolences to the victim’s family, friends, and coworkers, highlighting the catastrophic impact of this loss on everyone associated with Tinaburitos.

An investigation is currently underway in collaboration with local authorities and CAL/OSHA. Detectives have stated that there is no evidence of foul play.

Vernon is situated about five miles south of downtown Los Angeles.
