Friendly black bear surprises New Hampshire residents by ringing the doorbell before checking out the hot tub: video

A curious black bear, relaxing near its New Hampshire home, rang a doorbell before wandering off to check out a nearby hot tub, as seen in adorable surveillance footage shared by the homeowner.

The bear sniffed around the garden patio, then playfully nudged the doorbell with its nose, seemingly expecting an answer from anyone inside.

When the doorbell rang, it stepped back for a moment, before deciding to explore more of the patio.

It discovered the hot tub, placed its paws on the cover, and poked at it with its nose.

After realizing the cover wouldn’t budge, the bear gave up, wandering further into the expansive garden.

“At least he was polite enough to ring the doorbell to see if we were home,” wrote resident Jay Levens on Facebook.

In New Hampshire, there are about 5,000 black bears, making them quite a common sight, according to the State Fish and Game Division.

These bears are generally harmless. Interestingly, since 1784, no one has been killed by one in the state, though it’s still wise for people to keep their distance, as bears are, after all, still wild animals with sharp teeth.

In April, there was footage of another playful bear exploring a children’s playground, even sliding down a slide in Connecticut.

In North Carolina, a man scared off a bear in his yard by donning a bear costume, which is, well, a bit unconventional.

Meanwhile, in New Jersey, some bear cubs were exploring a second-floor balcony while their siblings rummaged through the trash, prompting some very protective parent bears to intervene.
