A 6.1 Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Greece, Fire Services Prepared for Action

Earthquake Hits Crete, Alert Status in Place

Emergency services in Crete were particularly vigilant on Thursday after a magnitude 6.1 earthquake struck, sending vibrations felt across Turkey and Israel.

Firefighters mentioned that they have yet to receive any emergency calls or report significant damage to properties.

The tremor occurred at 6:19 AM local time, about 79 km (49 miles) from Heraklion, catching both locals and vacationers off guard as the summer season begins.

Interestingly, a CCTV clip shared on Facebook showed a plant pot on a balcony shaking for several seconds.

Greece, known for its seismic activity, has been experiencing an unusual amount of tremors this year, especially on the popular tourist destination of Santorini, which led to evacuations and school closures.
