Friends of Kate Cassidy have expressed concern regarding her behavior after the tragic passing of her boyfriend, Liam Payne, in Argentina last year.
“There were months where I literally didn’t see her smile, but I saw her every day,” a close friend shared with the Daily Mail on Sunday.
“I was really worried. She just didn’t seem like herself. She canceled so many gatherings and became almost a recluse.”
A source mentioned that Cassidy, who began dating Payne in 2022, is on the mend. While she’s “not there yet,” she is “hanging out with friends” again and open to the idea of dating.
“There was definitely a time when she wasn’t okay, but now she seems to be improving,” the source added. “She’s moving on, and she knows that’s what he would have wanted.”
The friend also addressed claims by a hotel employee that the 26-year-old had a close relationship with Payne and allegedly provided him drugs shortly before his fatal fall from a hotel balcony.
“Kate doesn’t give any thought to those allegations at all,” a friend remarked. “She knows what their relationship was like, and it was very special. No matter what transpired that day, her feelings for Liam remain unchanged.”
Cassidy had left Argentina two days before Payne’s death on October 16, 2024, when he was just 31. He had reportedly asked her to extend her stay, and after her departure, witnesses noted she started acting in an “erratic” manner.
An autopsy confirmed the presence of drugs in the “Night Changes” singer’s system, leading to charges against several individuals, including Mr. Paiz, for supplying him drugs.
In a heartfelt Instagram post shortly after Payne’s death, Cassidy expressed: “The last few days have felt unreal. I kindly ask for grace and space as I work through this privately.”
“Liam, my angel. You mean everything to me. Please know that I love you completely and unconditionally. I will continue to love you for my entire life. I love you, Liam.”
She has also shared memories from their time together, including a wedding they attended in France just weeks before his passing. Additionally, Cassidy posted a video of herself baking a cake for Payne’s 32nd birthday and recreated an AI image of him in a dapper outfit after they reunited.
