Trump Addresses Shooting of Activist Charlie Kirk
In a recent video posted on Truth Social, President Donald Trump responded to the tragic shooting of conservative activist Charlie Kirk at Utah Valley University (UVU). The video, titled “TO MY GREAT FELLOW AMERICANS…,” conveyed Trump’s heartfelt sorrow, referring to Kirk as “a great guy from top to bottom.” He called on people to pray for Kirk’s recovery.
Additionally, Trump has directed that all American flags be flown at half-staff until Sunday evening in honor of Kirk’s memory.
The incident took place during Kirk’s “American Comeback Tour” event, where he was addressing a question regarding mass shootings linked to transgender individuals. In a sudden turn of events, he was struck by a gunshot from about 200 yards away.
Despite being rushed to the hospital, Kirk unfortunately did not survive his injuries, sparking widespread condemnation and fear. Some online responses revealed troubling attitudes from those opposed to Kirk’s political views. However, leaders from both sides of the aisle have united in denouncing the violence, calling for an end to political attacks.
In his video message, Trump emphasized his close ties with Kirk and his efforts to honor the life and impact of the conservative figure. He expressed that Kirk “inspired millions” and stated that those who admired him share a feeling of shock and horror at the incident.
“Charlie was a patriot who devoted his life to the cause of open debate and the country that he loved so much — the United States of America,” Trump said, describing Kirk as “a martyr for truth and freedom.” He noted Kirk’s deep faith and found solace in the belief that Kirk is now at peace with God. Trump extended his prayers to Kirk’s wife, Erika, and their two young children, as well as his entire family.
