A.J. Hinch Talks Tigers Expectations, Offseason

The offseason for the Mets and Yankees leaves a lot to be desired, especially the Mets.

Has winter ended for both teams? Is this essentially the roster they bring to spring training? What else do I need to do?

Joel Sherman and Jon Heyman break down the New York baseball team’s somewhat lackluster winter on “The Show” podcast.

A team that could make a breakthrough this year is the Detroit Tigers. On this week’s episode, manager AJ Hinch joins Joel and John.

“The Show” Podcast with Joel Sherman and Jon Heyman:

  • Mets question mark: Goals and expectations have receded. They seem to be looking forward to 2025 even more.
  • Yankees outlook: I don’t understand the prospect of them becoming heavy favorites. The Orioles are a young team and can get even better. There are still question marks in the Yankees’ rotation.
  • Hall of Fame voting: All candidates must remain on the ballot for at least three years. The Hall of Fame induction ceremony will be postponed to late June, when there will be fewer events.

  • play off: We understand what it takes to win. They want to end their playoff drought.
  • Cola/Baez: I’ve wanted to hire Joey Cora for years. They need Javy Baez to be successful this year. He’s having a good offseason. He’s looking for a bounce back year from him.
  • Third base: Who will play the most minutes at third base for them?
  • pitching: A group of sneaky good pitchers. There could be some good competition for rotation spots in the spring. Last year’s bullpen was great. I’m excited about Maeda-san.
  • Mark Cagna: He’s very disciplined at the plate. He has a competitive edge. He plays primarily in the outfield and sometimes as a first baseman.
