GOP Chairperson Critiques California’s Immigration Policies
The chairperson of the Los Angeles County GOP, Roxanne Hoge, who immigrated to the U.S. in 1976 and became a citizen in 2000, expressed concerns about what she perceives as a “two-tier” judicial system in California. She argues that this system, allegedly cultivated by the Democrats, is designed to keep Latinos and immigrants in a state of disadvantage.
In a conversation with Fox News Digital, Hoge questioned the Democratic narrative that they are the party for immigrants, suggesting that their policies actually inhibit progress for these communities. “If you’re someone who pays taxes and generally follows the rules, you’re kind of a hero,” she said, pointing out that those wanting to start legitimate businesses often face lengthy delays, which can contribute to the decline of once-thriving areas.
Hoge made a striking analogy, referencing historical issues with slavery to illustrate her points on immigration today. She remarked on the irony of Democrats being upset over immigration enforcement, saying it’s reminiscent of previous labor disputes.
In a related issue, recent immigration enforcement actions at a cannabis facility in northern Los Angeles revealed nine unaccompanied immigrant children, prompting discussions about child labor violations according to Customs and Border Patrol Commissioner Rodney Scott, who criticized the state’s handling of the situation.
Hoge criticized prominent Democratic figures like Governor Gavin Newsom and Mayor Karen Bass for employing fear tactics regarding immigration enforcement. She recounted an incident involving a Mexican immigrant’s alleged deception regarding her immigration status which was initially sensationalized by the media.
“Democrats, when they complain about illegal immigration, they ignore the real impact on those below them,” she said, emphasizing her belief that the party prefers a system that maintains permanent lower classes.
Reflecting on California’s past, Hoge reminisced about a time when the state felt vibrant and opportunities were plentiful, suggesting that the current climate is far from that ideal.
While Fox News Digital sought comment from Newsom and Bass, no immediate responses were received. Recently, Newsom critiqued former President Trump’s approach to immigration, labeling him a “chaos agent” and claiming his policies have had a disruptive impact on California communities.
